端午节
Dragon Boat Festival
中国传统节日,农历五月初五。相传古代诗人屈原在五月初五投江自杀,后人把这天作为节日纪念他。有划龙舟比赛、包粽子等风俗。
A traditional Chinese festival on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. Legend has it that the poet Qu Yuan of ancient times drowned himself in the river, and people after him have designated this day as a festival in honour of him, holding dragon boats race and preparing pyramid-shaped dumplings of glutinous rice wrapped in bamboo or reed leaves.

粽子

中国传统食品。用竹叶或苇叶包裹糯米,扎成三角形或其他形状,煮熟后食用,有咸甜两种。民间风俗,端午节吃粽子。
A traditional Chinese dumpling, pyramid-shaped or otherwise, made of glutinous rice and sweetened bean paste or meat, wrapped in bamboo or reed leaves, customarily eaten during the Dragon Boat Festival.
雄黄酒

屈原
Qu Yuan
屈原(约前340—前278),名平,字原,又名正则,字灵均。战国时代楚国人。他主张选拔德才兼备的人出任官职,以实现富国强兵的理想。但朝中贵族竭力反对、毁谤和打击他。后来被长期流放沅江和湘江一带,最后绝望投江而死。屈原是中国最早的伟大诗人。他的诗作语言优美,想象丰富,对后世影响很大。代表作品有《离骚》等。
Qu Yuan (340? B.C. — 278 B.C.). His given name was Ping and his alternative name, Yuan. His another given name was Zhengze and his another alternative name, Lingjun. He was born in the Chu State of the Warring States (475 B.C. —221 B.C.). He insisted on choosing competent people with political integrity to be government officials so as to materialize his ideal of making his country both strong and prosperous. However, the noble men in the imperial court sought hard to oppose, slander and lash out at him. As a result, he was sent into exile in the deltas of the Yuan River and the Xiang River. In despair he finally drowned himself in the river. He is regarded as the greatest poet in the early period of ancient China. His poetry is of refined language and rich imagination, and has exerted a great influence on the late literary creation. His representative work is The Lament.
